About Luras
I live in the beautiful state of Maine, with my husband and two kids, Cameron (14) and Portia (11), and our Puggle (Pug & Beagle) named “Gigi” (she looks a lot like Stitch’s dog on the old website). For twenty years, my Mom and I ran a large retail home furnishings business in Maine and Florida, and sold that in 2004. After a nice break, I wanted to do something small, from home – along came Lura’s Fabric Shop. I decided to buy Lura’s website business in November 2008, when Lura was looking for her own hiatus.
Our first month was a bit rough; trying to sort through tons of fabric Lura had packed up and sent to me. Then along came an ice storm which kept us without electricity for 3 long days. Make no mention of the holidays that were thrown in there! But we made it through and it turns out my daughter, Portia is a pretty good fabric cutter, and folder! She is also good on the computer, making my stationary and business cards. She is very creative and is thrilled to have all that wonderful fabric at her fingertips! I never was much of a seamstress, but she works off what she buys to make pajama pants, blankets and coats for Gigi. Cameron doesn’t take too much interest, but helps bring the fabric in when it is shipped to me and the boxes out to be mailed.
